Influencer warns of mercury risk after eating tuna daily

A British influencer has said she was close to mercury poisoning after eating canned tuna almost every day.

Grace Beverley, 28, shared on TikTok that she began feeling unwell before discovering the cause. She said she noticed weight gain, inflammation, and hormone issues, which led her to take hormone, gastrointestinal, and blood tests in late 2025.

After the tests, her doctor called her with unexpected results. Beverley said she was alarmed by the call and feared something serious. During the conversation, her doctor asked how much canned fish she ate.

Beverley replied that she usually ate one to two tins of tuna a day. Her doctor told her that this was far above the recommended amount, which is about two servings of tuna per week.

According to Beverley, her doctor said she was “borderline for mercury poisoning” and also had high arsenic levels. She was advised to stop eating fish for several months.

Mercury poisoning can happen when a person consumes too much seafood containing mercury. Health experts, including the Cleveland Clinic, warn that mercury is toxic and can harm the body.

The World Health Organization says mercury exposure can damage the nervous system, kidneys, and skin. In some forms, it can also irritate the digestive system and eyes.

Beverley’s post drew strong reactions online. Many viewers said they also eat canned tuna regularly and were surprised by the recommended limits.

Some commenters said they rely on tuna as a quick and affordable source of protein, raising concerns about how much is safe to eat.

Health experts generally advise limiting consumption of certain fish, especially tuna, due to mercury levels, and recommend varying protein sources to reduce risk.
