Michael Jackson Biopic Debuts Without Mention of Allegations

James Safechuck, one of the men who has accused Michael Jackson of childhood sexual abuse, released a new video message addressing survivors as a major biopic about the pop star arrives in theaters.

In the video, shared by his attorney, Safechuck says the renewed attention on Jackson can be difficult for people who have experienced abuse. He notes that alleged abusers are sometimes still celebrated publicly, even after accusations have been made, and emphasizes that survivors are not alone.

Safechuck and Wade Robson previously detailed their allegations against Jackson in the 2019 HBO documentary Leaving Neverland. Both men claim Jackson abused them when they were children. Jackson was never convicted of any crime during his lifetime, and his estate has consistently denied all allegations.

The two men are currently pursuing a lawsuit against Jackson’s estate, seeking $400 million in damages.

In a social media post, Safechuck thanked The Hollywood Reporter for covering his latest message and repeated his claim that Jackson abused children during the late 1980s. Robson also commented on the release of the new film, questioning how the project could move forward without addressing the allegations, and expressing sympathy for other alleged victims.

The new biopic, titled Michael, focuses on Jackson’s life and career but does not include any reference to the abuse claims. The film’s narrative concludes in 1988.
