Olivia Munn Says Kate Middleton’s Words Captured the Reality of Cancer Recovery

Actress Olivia Munn says she found clarity and comfort in a recent comment by Catherine, Princess of Wales, about the often overlooked challenges of cancer recovery.

Speaking on NBC’s Today show with Jenna Bush Hager, Munn described how difficult it was to explain the physical and emotional toll she experienced after completing active treatment for breast cancer. She said a public reflection from Kate Middleton helped her better understand and articulate that phase.

Munn highlighted a remark in which the Princess of Wales described the period following treatment as unexpectedly difficult. Kate noted that patients often maintain a sense of stoicism during treatment, only to find that the time afterward—when they are expected to return to normal life—can be just as challenging.

Munn said that observation resonated deeply. She explained that while much attention is given to surgeries and chemotherapy, the post-treatment period can feel isolating. Patients are no longer under constant medical supervision but may still be dealing with fatigue, emotional strain, and a sense that they have not fully recovered.

According to Munn, hearing someone else describe that experience so clearly gave her a sense of validation. She said it helped her realize she was not alone in struggling to adjust after treatment ended.

Both Munn and the Princess of Wales were diagnosed with cancer in 2024. Munn underwent a double mastectomy and multiple surgeries after being diagnosed with luminal B breast cancer.

As of April 2026, Munn has returned to work and is appearing in the Apple TV+ series Your Friends & Neighbors. She said her family, including her husband John Mulaney and their children, has played a key role in helping her navigate the ongoing recovery process.
