Rachel Zegler to Star in Evita on Broadway in 2027

Rachel Zegler will bring her award-winning role as Eva Perón to Broadway in 2027.

Producers announced that a revival of the musical Evita, directed by Jamie Lloyd, is coming to New York after a sold-out run in London’s West End. Zegler, who won an Olivier Award for her performance, will star in the Broadway production. The exact theater, dates, and full cast have not been announced yet.

The show is written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Both praised the new version of Evita and Zegler’s performance. Webber said he is excited for American audiences to see this fresh take on the musical, while Rice described Zegler as a powerful and charismatic lead.

Director Jamie Lloyd said the London production received an overwhelming response and that he looks forward to bringing it to Broadway. He also noted that one famous moment from the London show—where Zegler sang “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” from an outdoor balcony—will likely be changed for the New York version.

Zegler said returning to the role is a special opportunity and that she is excited to perform in her hometown of New York City.

The London production of Evita was highly successful and won two Olivier Awards, including Best Actress for Zegler.
