Sandra Bullock Urges Hollywood to “Lean Into” AI as Practical Magic 2 Buzz Builds

Sandra Bullock has called on the entertainment industry to accept and adapt to artificial intelligence, describing the technology as unavoidable and potentially useful if handled carefully. She made the remarks at the CNBC Changemakers Summit in April 2026, as interest builds around her upcoming film Practical Magic 2, scheduled for release on September 11, 2026.

Bullock said Hollywood should “lean into” AI rather than resist it, emphasizing that the technology is already reshaping how content is created and shared. According to her, industry professionals need to study how AI works and apply it in ways that are both creative and responsible. She suggested that AI could become a collaborative tool if used with clear boundaries, adding that it should have a defined “place” in the filmmaking process.

Her comments were partly prompted by a wave of AI-generated trailers for Practical Magic 2 that have circulated online. Some of these clips use simulated versions of actors’ likenesses, including her own. Bullock responded with humor, saying there could be “worse” uses of her image, but the situation highlights broader concerns about consent and digital replication.

Despite her openness to AI, Bullock stressed the risks associated with the technology. She warned that misuse is inevitable and said the industry must remain vigilant about harmful applications, including deceptive or unauthorized content.

The discussion comes at a moment of renewed attention on the Practical Magic franchise. Bullock recently appeared at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas alongside co-star Nicole Kidman to promote the sequel. The film brings back original cast members Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, while adding new actors including Joey King, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace, and Xolo Maridueña. It is directed by Susanne Bier.

Warner Bros. CEO Pam Abdy acknowledged the growing influence of AI-driven fan content, noting that while the studio is cautious, the popularity of these unofficial trailers demonstrates strong audience demand for the sequel.
