Tupac Shakur’s Stepbrother Files Lawsuit Over 1996 Killing

Tupac Shakur’s stepbrother, Maurice Shakur, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Duane “Keffe D” Davis, the man accused of being involved in the rapper’s 1996 killing. The lawsuit also names dozens of unidentified people who may have taken part in the crime.

Maurice Shakur says the goal is to hold everyone responsible accountable, even after nearly 30 years. The lawsuit argues that some people involved have died, while others have not yet been identified, but justice is still possible.

Tupac was shot on September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas after attending a Mike Tyson boxing match. He was in a car with music executive Suge Knight when another car pulled up and fired multiple shots. Tupac was hit several times and died a few days later.

The case went unsolved for many years. In 2023, police arrested Davis, a former gang leader, and charged him with murder. Prosecutors say he helped organize the shooting after a fight between Tupac and Davis’s nephew, Orlando Anderson.

Davis has pleaded not guilty. His lawyers claim he made false statements in the past about being involved, possibly for attention or profit.

The new lawsuit says recent evidence, including grand jury testimony and a documentary about Sean “Diddy” Combs, suggests the killing may have involved a larger group of people than previously known.

Davis’s criminal trial is scheduled to begin in August.
