Speaking about the aftermath of Bullseye’s attack on Vanessa Fisk, D’Onofrio said the event marks a turning point for the character. According to the actor, Vanessa had long served as Fisk’s emotional restraint, helping him maintain control despite his violent tendencies. With that anchor gone, Fisk is now operating without the same limits.
D’Onofrio described this version of the Kingpin as “more of a loose cannon than he has ever been before.” He added that Fisk is no longer thinking clearly, as his grief and narcissism are now driving his decisions. This shift is especially significant given Fisk’s position as Mayor of New York City, where emotional reactions could have far-reaching consequences.
The actor also noted that filming the scenes was particularly intense on a personal level due to his long-standing friendship with co-star Ayelet Zurer, who plays Vanessa. He said portraying Fisk’s reaction required little effort because of that connection.
The creative team behind the series has indicated that this moment will have lasting effects on the story. D’Onofrio confirmed that the fallout extends beyond Season 2 and will directly influence the narrative in Season 3. Showrunner Dario Scardapane hinted that Episode 5 will explore a new dimension of Fisk’s character, suggesting something more complex than simple rage.
Meanwhile, Vanessa’s fate remains officially unconfirmed. Although Episode 4 ends with her critically injured, executive producer Sana Amanat has avoided confirming her death. However, D’Onofrio’s references to the “repercussions of her death” have led many to believe the character will not survive.
New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 are released weekly on Tuesdays on Disney+.
