Speaking at the American Music Awards in Las Vegas, the 63-year-old singer said she feels grateful that the song is reaching new audiences. Abdul said interest in the track grew after it was featured in the upcoming film People We Meet on Vacation and became popular on TikTok.
She was especially touched when Meghan Markle used “Forever Your Girl” in an Instagram post celebrating her eighth wedding anniversary with Prince Harry. The post included previously unseen wedding photos, and Abdul later shared it on her own Instagram Stories, wishing the couple a happy anniversary.
Released in 1989 from Abdul’s debut album, “Forever Your Girl” helped make her one of the most successful new artists of the era. The music video was directed by David Fincher and featured actor Elijah Wood as a child.
Meanwhile, Meghan and Harry marked their anniversary with family celebrations, including a lemon and elderflower cake inspired by their wedding cake. Harry also reportedly gave Meghan a bronze sculpture of two penguins, a nod to a special memory from their engagement period. Meghan later thanked a British Airways crew who surprised her with an anniversary card and gifts during a flight home from Geneva.
