Debbie Perry, the wife of the late actor’s father, submitted a victim impact statement describing the family’s grief as permanent and overwhelming. She called Sangha a “heartless woman” and urged the court to ensure she cannot harm others. In her statement, she said there is “no escape” from the pain of Perry’s death and added, “You caused this… we miss him.”
Sangha, 42, previously pleaded guilty to multiple federal charges, including distribution of ketamine resulting in death, maintaining a drug-involved property, and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. The most serious charge is directly tied to Perry’s fatal overdose.
Under federal law, Sangha faces a potential sentence ranging up to decades in prison, possibly as much as 65 years to life. Prosecutors have recommended a 15-year sentence, arguing that she acted with “cold callousness.” Her defense team is seeking a sentence of time served, citing claims of rehabilitation and sobriety.
According to prosecutors, Sangha knew the risks associated with the drugs she sold. They pointed to a prior incident in 2019 involving another overdose death and said she continued dealing ketamine despite that knowledge. In Perry’s case, she allegedly supplied dozens of vials in the weeks leading up to his death, including the batch linked to the fatal dose.
Prosecutors have also raised concerns about Sangha’s behavior after her arrest, citing recordings in which she allegedly discussed potential book deals and trademarks related to the case.
Sangha is one of five people charged in connection with Perry’s death. Other defendants have already been sentenced. Dr. Salvador Plasencia received 30 months in prison, while Dr. Mark Chavez was sentenced to eight months of home confinement. Two others, Kenneth Iwamasa and Erik Fleming, have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing later this month.
The court’s decision in Sangha’s case is expected to be closely watched, given the high-profile nature of Perry’s death and the broader scrutiny on illegal drug distribution networks.
