Netflix Cancels Kerri Strug Biopic Perfect After Millie Bobby Brown Exit

Netflix has canceled Perfect, a planned biographical film about Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug, after its lead star and producer, Millie Bobby Brown, exited the project.

According to reports from Deadline and Variety, Brown left the film due to “creative differences” with the production team. No further details have been publicly shared by either Brown or Netflix about what led to the disagreement.

Following her departure, Netflix chose not to move forward with the movie. Instead of recasting the lead role, the studio decided to shelve the project entirely. Filming had been expected to begin later this year.

The production had already faced some changes behind the scenes. Director Gia Coppola was originally attached but was later replaced by Cate Shortland, known for directing Black Widow. Despite these adjustments, the project ultimately could not move ahead without its star.

Perfect was set to tell the story of Kerri Strug, a member of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Strug became widely known after performing a vault on an injured ankle, helping secure a gold medal for the team and becoming a symbol of determination in the process.

Even with this cancellation, Brown remains closely tied to Netflix through several upcoming projects. She is expected to return in Enola Holmes 3, which is currently in development. She is also producing and starring in Nineteen Steps, based on her own novel. In addition, she appears in the completed romantic comedy Just Picture It and the upcoming sci-fi film The Electric State, directed by the Russo Brothers.

The cancellation comes a few months after the conclusion of Stranger Things, the series that helped launch Brown’s career, which ended with its fifth season in late 2025.
