Ving Rhames Recovering After Collapsing at Los Angeles Restaurant

Actor Ving Rhames is recovering after collapsing at a restaurant in Los Angeles while dining with his family, his representative confirmed.

According to the representative, Rhames was able to speak on the phone shortly after the incident and sounded like his usual self, even making a joke. Emergency responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived after receiving a call about a 66-year-old man with an unknown medical issue. They treated him at the scene and took him to a hospital for further care.

A statement to TMZ said the incident may have been caused by overheating, and Rhames is now being monitored by doctors.

Ving Rhames is widely known for his role as Luther in the Mission: Impossible film series. He has also appeared in films such as Pulp Fiction, Dawn of the Dead, and Piranha 3D. In 1998, he won a Golden Globe and received an Emmy nomination for his performance as Don King in the HBO film Don King: Only in America.

More recently, in 2026, Rhames hosted the television series History’s Deadliest With Ving Rhames, which explores major disasters and historical figures.

Rhames has previously said he did not originally plan to become an actor. In an earlier interview, he explained that a teacher encouraged him to pursue acting in high school, which eventually led him to study at the Juilliard School. He later described acting as his life’s purpose.
