The 42-year-old Broadway actor is best known for playing Christian in Moulin Rouge! The Musical from 2019 to 2022. He won a Tony Award for Best Actor in 2021 for the role.
Speaking at the opening night of the new stage musical Schmigadoon!, Tveit was asked which musical world he would choose to live in. He quickly chose Moulin Rouge. He said the late 1800s setting was an exciting time for art and creativity, though he joked he would prefer to avoid the illnesses of that era.
Tveit has appeared in several popular musicals, including Wicked, Hairspray, and Grease: Live!. He also has a personal connection to Moulin Rouge, as he met his wife, Ericka Yang, during the production. The couple married in June 2025 and have one daughter.
Tveit and Yang also worked together on the TV series Schmigadoon!, which is now being turned into a Broadway show. He said it feels special to see the show move from television to the stage, especially since many of the original cast loved the project.
He added that it was meaningful to work with family during the filming of Schmigadoon! in Vancouver during the pandemic, calling the experience “surreal” and “incredible.”
Tveit is currently starring in the Broadway musical Chess, where he plays Freddie Trumper alongside Lea Michele and Nicholas Christopher.
