Goldie Hawn Says Freedom Is Key to 43-Year Relationship With Kurt Russell

Goldie Hawn has shared why her long relationship with Kurt Russell works, even though the couple never married.

In an interview with People, Hawn said their bond has lasted more than four decades because it gives them a sense of freedom. She explained that she does not feel “penned in” and that it is okay for them to disagree at times. According to her, their relationship has been built on “a lot of goodness” and shared life experiences. She also said they are simply “the right match.”

Hawn spoke while promoting her first children’s book, The After-School Kindness Crew: Pooch on the Loose #1, which focuses on kindness and joy—values she says guide her own life. She described her personal mission as being happy and setting a positive example for her family.

The couple has a large blended family. Together, they have one son, Wyatt Russell. Hawn also has two children, Oliver and Kate Hudson, from her previous marriage to Bill Hudson. Russell has a son, Boston, from his previous marriage to Season Hubley. Altogether, the family includes eight grandchildren.

Hawn and Russell first met in 1966 while working on a film but did not start dating until 1983. Over the years, Hawn has often spoken about what drew her to Russell. She has said he was attractive but genuine, and that she admired how naturally he connected with her children.

Their relationship continues to stand out in Hollywood for its longevity and unconventional approach to commitment.
