In a joint statement released May 4, both sides said they are proud of the movie and its message about domestic violence. They also acknowledged that the situation had been difficult and said they hope the agreement allows everyone involved to move forward peacefully.
The case had been scheduled to go to trial in May. However, in April, a federal judge in New York dismissed most of Lively’s claims, including allegations of sexual harassment, defamation, and conspiracy. The judge allowed a few claims to remain, including breach of contract and retaliation under California law.
Lively’s legal team had argued that the sexual harassment claims were dismissed mainly because she was classified as an independent contractor rather than an employee. Baldoni’s lawyer said the court’s decision supported their position that the allegations were unfounded.
The dispute began in December 2024 when Lively filed a complaint accusing Baldoni of inappropriate behavior and organizing a smear campaign against her. Baldoni denied the claims and later filed a countersuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, seeking $400 million in damages. That countersuit was dismissed in June.
The legal battle included multiple accusations from both sides and the release of private messages as evidence. With the settlement now reached, the case is officially closed.
