The 35-year-old actor and musician shared the update during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on April 28. He was there to promote the new season of his Netflix show Running Point, but also talked about his recent move.
Hanks, the son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, explained that he did not want to rent another apartment after recently buying and furnishing a condo in Los Angeles. He said staying in hotels and Airbnbs became tiring because he prefers having his own space.
He decided to try a simpler lifestyle after staying in an Airstream trailer during a trip to Carmel-by-the-Sea in California. That experience led him to buy his own trailer. While it is not an Airstream, he said he is happy with his Jayco Eagle model.
Hanks said the trailer has everything he needs, including a kitchen and a walk-in shower, which he noted is a valuable feature since some trailers combine the toilet and shower into one space.
He also described the community where he lives. According to Hanks, most of his neighbors are much older, mainly retirees, and he is likely one of the youngest residents by several decades. He said the environment is calm and not at all dangerous, contrary to common stereotypes about trailer parks.
Although he has a fire pit outside, Hanks admitted he mostly spends his time indoors relaxing, watching shows, and staying in bed.
In addition to his living situation, Hanks spoke about performing at the Stagecoach music festival on April 25. It was only the second live performance for his band, Something Out West. His father attended the show, making the moment especially meaningful for him.
