Monica Barbaro Says She “Hit It Off Immediately” With Co-Star Callum Turner

Actors Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro say they connected quickly while filming their new romantic comedy, One Night Only.

The movie is directed by Will Gluck, known for films like Anyone But You and Easy A. It tells the story of two strangers, Allie and Owen, who meet in a version of New York City where, for one night each year, single people are allowed to have sex freely.

The film also features Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, Molly Ringwald and LeVar Burton. It follows the main characters as they move through a busy and chaotic night, where many people are looking for connection.

Barbaro said she was interested in the film because of its unusual idea and the chance to work with Turner. She described him as a talented actor whose work she had admired before.

Turner also praised Barbaro, calling her an incredible actress and saying he was excited to work with her. He added that working with director Will Gluck made him feel confident, given Gluck’s experience with popular romantic comedies.

Both actors said they got along well from the start. Turner said they were able to take creative risks on set and have fun while filming, which made the experience feel freeing.

Barbaro said her favorite romantic comedies are the ones that show real, sometimes awkward moments. She said the team tried to include those kinds of details to make the story feel more realistic.

The actors also shared a light moment from filming, saying they laughed a lot during a night scene involving a mannequin and an ATM, as the director encouraged them to keep trying new ideas.

One Night Only is set to be released in cinemas on August 28.
