Paris Jackson Says Addiction Made Her Lose Her “Moral Compass” Before Sobriety

Paris Jackson is speaking candidly about how addiction affected her behavior and sense of self.

Appearing on Jack Osbourne’s Trying Not to Die podcast, the 28-year-old singer and daughter of Michael Jackson said her struggles with drugs and alcohol led her to act in ways that conflicted with the values she was raised with.

“I was raised to be kind,” Jackson said, explaining that addiction caused her “moral compass” to disappear when she drank. She admitted she became “a very vindictive person” during that time.

Jackson, who says she is now six years sober, reflected on years of self-hatred and mental health challenges before recovery. She revealed she struggled with self-harm, overeating, and unhealthy coping behaviors long before using substances.

She also said she noticed addictive tendencies early in life, describing a constant feeling of “reaching for something outside of yourself.”

In January, Jackson shared an Instagram post about the realities of sobriety, saying recovery does not make life perfect. She opened up about living with treatment-resistant depression, complex PTSD, and OCD, while encouraging others facing similar struggles to “hang in there.”
