Rachel Ward Urges Fans to Embrace Aging After Trolls Mock Her Appearance

Actor Rachel Ward says she is no longer concerned about criticism of her appearance and wants people to embrace aging naturally.

Ward, 68, spoke to Australia’s ABC News after online commenters mocked her gray hair and makeup-free look in recent Instagram videos. Some users said she looked “ill” or “shocking,” comments Ward dismissed as trolling.

The British actor became famous for her role in the 1983 TV drama “The Thorn Birds.” She now lives with her husband, actor Bryan Brown, on their cattle farm in New South Wales, Australia, where she promotes regenerative farming on social media.

Ward said society puts too much pressure on older women to appear young. She criticized cosmetic procedures and the entertainment industry’s focus on beauty and sex appeal, calling it “empty” and “unsatisfying.”

“I’m so past caring about what people think about one’s appearance or age,” she said. “I’m more content now than I’ve ever been.”

Ward added that she feels happier and more fulfilled in later life and encouraged people to welcome aging rather than fear it.

Several fellow actors, including Frances Fisher and Lesley Ann Warren, publicly supported her online.
