Tara Lipinski shares second-trimester pregnancy loss during surrogacy journey

Tara Lipinski has shared that she recently experienced a pregnancy loss during her journey to have a second child through surrogacy.

The Olympic gold medalist said her surrogate lost the baby in the second trimester a few months ago. She described the experience as “devastating” and another painful moment in a long and difficult fertility journey.

Lipinski explained that she had not planned to share the news yet, but decided to speak openly after hearing from many women about their own struggles with infertility and pregnancy loss. She said sharing these experiences can be difficult, but also important.

This was part of her second surrogacy journey with her husband, Todd Kapostasy. Their first surrogate, who carried their daughter Georgie in 2023, was not able to continue for another pregnancy. Since then, Lipinski said they have faced several challenges, including finding a new surrogate, medical setbacks, and a failed embryo transfer before this loss.

Lipinski expressed gratitude to both her current and former surrogates, saying they will always hold a special place in her life.

The couple welcomed their daughter after a five-year infertility journey that included multiple miscarriages and failed IVF attempts. Lipinski has been open about those struggles and has spoken publicly about using surrogacy to grow their family.

In her message, she also offered support to others who have experienced miscarriage or baby loss, saying she understands how painful those experiences can be.
