In an interview with USA Today, the 29-year-old Spider-Man star said alcohol made the stress of being in the public eye harder to manage. “Drinking was something that was ultimately really getting in the way of my professional life,” he said.
Holland decided to quit drinking in January 2022 after taking part in “Dry January,” a challenge where people avoid alcohol for a month. He originally planned to return to drinking afterward but realized alcohol had become too important in his daily life. He chose to stay sober.
Since then, Holland says he feels healthier and more confident. He wakes up clear-headed and feels more in control of his life. He also believes his career has improved. Over the past few years, he has taken on major roles in upcoming films such as The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Avengers: Doomsday.
Holland said he is not sure his success would have continued in the same way if he had kept drinking. He also shared that his personal life is going well, including reports that he recently married actress Zendaya.
To support others who want to avoid alcohol, Holland launched a non-alcoholic beer brand called Bero. He said having such an option would have helped him when he first became sober.
While Holland noted that alcohol can be enjoyable for some people, he warned that it can also be harmful. He added that he is encouraged to see more young people choosing not to drink and looking for safer alternatives.
He also said his group of friends has cut back on drinking. At a recent gathering, no one drank alcohol. Holland described the experience as more relaxed and enjoyable, without the usual hangovers the next day.
