Dorfman, who came out as transgender in 2021, posted photos of an older man sitting next to her in first class. In the images, the man is seen texting several people, complaining about having to sit next to a trans person. His messages included offensive and insulting language.
In her caption, Dorfman said the man openly sent these messages while sitting beside her. She wrote that moments like this remind her why she has made choices to feel comfortable in her identity, even though it can sometimes affect her sense of safety in public spaces.
She also addressed comments about her appearance, saying that “passing” as cisgender has never been her goal. Instead, she emphasized that her focus is on living in a way that feels right for her.
One of the people the man texted, identified as Samantha, responded by telling him to be kind and remember that many LGBTQ+ people face challenges. Dorfman praised Samantha for that response.
The post received support from several celebrities, including Amanda Seyfried, Pauline Chalamet, Kaia Gerber, and Ellie Goulding, who criticized the man’s behavior and expressed support for Dorfman.
Dorfman did not share which airline the incident occurred on or when it happened.
