Alaskan Bush People Star Matt Brown's Cause of Death Revealed

Matt Brown, one of the original stars of Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People, died by suicide, according to the Okanogan County Coroner’s Office in Washington. He was 42.

The coroner said Brown was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of his death, and immersion in water was listed as a contributing factor.

Brown’s body was found in a river on May 30. His brother, Bear Brown, confirmed the news and said the family was devastated by the loss.

In a statement, the Brown family remembered Matt as a talented outdoorsman, artist, and lifelong learner who struggled with addiction and mental health challenges for many years. They said he often shared his recovery journey to help others facing similar battles.

Matt Brown was the eldest of the Brown siblings and appeared on Alaskan Bush People, which followed the family’s life in the wilderness. His father, Billy Brown, died in 2021.
