In an interview with The Guardian, Everett said years of weight training without stretching have left him with serious muscle and joint problems. He described himself as "almost crippled" and believes his health decline will be related to musculoskeletal issues.
The actor, known for My Best Friend's Wedding (1997), said he was once in great shape, though he naturally had a very thin build. Early in his career, he even wore custom-made body padding to create the appearance of a more muscular physique before later going to the gym.
Everett also reflected on his Hollywood success in the late 1990s and early 2000s, saying he mistakenly assumed it would last forever. He previously revealed that the 2000 film The Next Best Thing, which co-starred Madonna, strained both their friendship and his Hollywood career.
Looking back, Everett said he would advise his younger self to respect audiences more and appreciate opportunities instead of always feeling he was missing out on a better life elsewhere.
